Documentary in Europe is the unique international documentary pitching event in Italy. Organized by the non-profit association with the same name the event is organized once a year and collects an average of 300 participants.
The event is dedicated to networking with screenings and master classes as well as a match-making session (for filmmakers searching for producers) and a pitching session (producers searching for co-productions). Italian and International broadcasters as well as financiers, sales agents and distributors attend the workshop.
Documentary in Europe is organized in collaboration with the European Documentary Network and with the support of MEDIA and the local institutions. Its partner members are Documentor (Romania), Docedge (India), Documentary Campus (Germany) and Doc/it and FERT (Italy),
Target Group
Filmmakers, small and medium documentary production companies, professionals and students.
Conditions
For match making session:
Participants must apply with a written proposal (maximum 3 page presentation in english, pdf format) which has to include the following elements:
- title, name of director, length, format
- short synopsis
- treatment with visual approach & reflections on the narrative
- the total budget amount
- short CV
- contact details of director
For pitching session:
Participants must apply with a written proposal (maximum 3 page presentation in english, pdf format) which has to include the following elements:
- title, name of producer, production company and director, length, format & production plan/time of delivery
- short synopsis
- treatment with visual approach & reflections on the narrative
- the total budget amount
- a brief financing plan
- short CV & filmography of company and director
- contact details on producer/production company and/or director
- visual material of max. 5 minutes (a trailer or other materials related with the project)
The projects must be uploaded on the application form linked to the event’s homepage (http://www.docineurope.org/application/).
Participation fee
Pitching session:
The participation fee is: first participant with project 300 Euro, second participant/observers 240 Euro. A 20% reduction is given to members of EDN, Doc/it, FERT, Docedge and Documentor.
Match making session:
The participation fee is: first participant with project 200 Euro, second participant/observers 160 Euro. A 20% reduction is given to members of EDN, Doc/it, FERT, Docedge and Documentor.

Call for Entries
Documentary in Europe, the unique international documentary pitching event in Italy, is accepting new documentary proposals to be pitched at the 2009 edition. Depending on your status and the status of your project you can submit it to either the pitching or the match making session. Deadline for submitting your project is May 13, 2009.
The Pitching Forum
The Documentary in Europe Pitching forum is open to producers with documentary projects searching for international co-production. 21 projects will be selected. The participants are required to attend a 2-day preparation lab on July 7-8 and will have the opportunity to re-write the project presentation under guidance of international tutors. The pitching of the projects will take place on 10-11 July in front of an international panel of Commissioning Editors. Participation fee: first participant 300 Euro, second participant/observers 250 Euro. 20% reduction for members of EDN, DocuMentor, doc.it, F.E.R.T and Docedge participants.
Match Making
The Match Making session is an opportunity for authors, directors and filmmakers to present their ideas at an early stage of development and introduce themselves to the documentary world. The 15 selected applicants will present their documentary ideas to various European professionals with the aim of creating a link and common language between newcomers and established professionals. The documentary ideas will be introduced in a special Match Making session on Thursday 9th. Participants will have the opportunity of preparing their pitch on Wednesday the 8th. Participation fee: 200 Euro, second participant/observers 160 Euro. A 20% reduction is given to members of EDN, DocuMentor, doc.it, F.E.R.T. and Docedge participants.
To submit your proposal
Starting from 25th April 2009 you can fill in the application form on the website www.docineurope.org. To submit your projects you should fill in the form and upload a 3 page presentation (containing title, synopsis, treatment and visual approach, summary budget and financial plan, producer’s and director’s cvs, contacts) together with pertinant visual material (max. 5 minutes). APPLICATIONS MUST BE IN ENGLISH.
The results of the selection will be announced by June 5th.
