About
Hans Treffers graduated in 1984 at the Dutch Film School in Amsterdam, majoring in Scriptwriting, Directing and Editing. His graduation project, a short fiction film was broadcasted by the Dutch National Network (NPS) and selected as the official Dutch Entry for the European festival of student films in Munich. Having worked as a film editor for various Television networks and on a number of Dutch features he specialized as an editor of commercials and promotional films and started directing and producing these productions. He produced a series of commercials and corporate films for clients such as Philips, Ahold, KLM, KPN, ABN-AMRO, McDonalds and the New Straits Times. Several productions received International awards and a commercial for KLM was awarded best commercial of the year in the Netherlands. In addition to these promotional programmes, he produced several international documentaries. He directed some episodes of the award-winning documentary series "Great Castles of Europe" for Discovery Channel, and produced, directed and edited a 13-part documentary series for RTM in Malaysia: “For a bowl of Rice”. Fiction also kept his interest and for John de Mol productions, he directed a number of television soaps. For several years he took up the management of a production/post production house in Kuala Lumpur/Singapore where he produced, directed and edited commercials, promotional governmental projects and documentary series for local television. During the last decennium, he managed the production/post production department of the Ministry of Defence and several of these programmes received International awards, the most prestigious of which was the "Grand Award" at the festival of Rome.
The last five years he concentrated on reality programmes for TV. He acted as senior editor in projects like “Beautiful” for the Belgium production company Kanakna, and in the Netherlands "the Golden Cage", “My husband can’t dance” and “Can’t buy me Love” for John de Mol/TALPA Productions.
In addition to the development of a number of documentaries and TV formats, a new feature “End of the Line” is currently being developed as a co-production between the Oscar nominated production company from Amsterdam, ID Film (Anton Smit/Hanneke Niens), and the English production company Parallax Films (Sally Hibbin/Ken Loach) from London.
