About

Irja Martens studied theater and media at the university of Bayreuth and at the Sorbonne in Paris. During her studies she was chief editor for the student broadcast Campus TV, which aired regularly on TV Oberfranken, and worked for Janus TV directing her first magazine-TV-formats for German private channel Kabel1. Since February 2006 she has been working as a producer, author and director for the film and TV-production company fechnerMEDIA. She was associate producer and director's assistant during the three-months filming for the French-German coproduction "Amour, Sexe et Mobylette" (Director: Christian Lelong, Cinedoc Annecy) in Burkina Faso. As executive producer on the team from 2006 to 2010 she was responsible for the development, financing and theatrical distribution of the cinema-featured documentary "The 4th Revolution - Energy Autonomy". Starting in 2008 she was as a director's assistant part of the production team, which shot the film in eleven countries during a six-months filming followed by an eight month editing period. The German theatrical release was in March 2010, with 120.000 viewers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Since January 2011 Irja Martens leads the Berlin office of fechnerMEDIA:Productions (www.fechnermedia.de) that are mainly based in the South of Germany close to Stuttgart. 2011 she has produced the German version of the cinema-featured documentary "Sir Nicky - Held wider Willen" (engl. Title Nicky's Family, Director: Matej, Minac, www.sirnicky-film.de, aired in ARD) and directed a TV reportage for zdf "Atommüll in meinem Garten" (nuclear waste in my backyard).
