200 years after Chopin's birth Marita Albán Juárez, half Polish, half Peruvian, explores the composers' legacy in his native Poland and abroad. In a personal quest she discovers the music that inspired Chopin - still an inspiration to many today. People's views of Chopin - his music and life - are the heart of this film.
Marita's personal goal in the film is to find an inspiration for her own interpretation of Chopin's pieces as she will attempt to sing some classics from the composer's menu.
Chopin Reloaded will be a „presenter led documentary.“ The narrator of our film is a young Chopin-expert and latin-jazz vocalist. Marita won’t be a passive expert, she’ll take part in the ongoing events. We’ll see her real emotions: having fun while playing mazurkas on traditional instruments or concentrating, while adapting Chopin’s music to jazz, together with Lesław Możdżer.
The film will present a cross-cultural perspective on the great composer. Chopin is well known worldwide, so we’ll talk to people who come from completely different backgrounds to reveal the universal appeal of his music.
In Paris Marita will take part in classes at one of the most prestigious musical lessonss in the world. She’ll talk to the teacher – Kevin Kenner, the first American winner of BOTH the Chopin and Tchaikovsky Competitions. Kevin and his students will discuss both Chopin's traditional and revolutionary approach to composing.
In Hamamatsu - the Japanese city of music, she’ll meet young Japanese students in order to discover why Chopin is so popular in Asia. She’ll also visit the tri-Crescendo company in Tokyo, which produced Eternal Sonata, a Playstation game about Chopin in anime style.
Marita's youth, combined with her thorough musical knowledge, will allow her to ask daring and unconventional questions. Questions, which neither a journalist nor a music professor would think of. Marita will also have to ask herself the simplest of all such questions: why do we still listen to Chopin’s music? Will she manage to understand her musical fascination? Is it possible to analyze Chopin's?
Chopin reloaded will be ready by 2010 for the bicentenary of Fryderyk Chopin's birth.
