Confessions of a humanitarian pioneer.

A 52’ Geopolitical documentary

For half a century Dr. Pascal Grellety Bosviel, has been travelling the world from war front to war front. From Algeria to Yemen, from Biafra to Afghanistan, from Vietnam to Kosovo….

A doctor, first for the French military then for the International Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders of which he was one of the founders. Dr. Pascal relieves victims, faces epidemics and famines, denounces massacres and genocides.

While devoting his life to cure and relieve in the name of the victim’s human rights, this humanitarian pioneer, found on each of his missions time to work on his notebooks filled with handwritten stories and impressions, watercolors and satirical drawings, photos, mission reports, press clippings. In all sixty notebooks covering over one hundred missions between 1964 and 2010.

An unprecedented treasure he has carefully preserved. An invaluable testimonial that allows us to discover from the core, the evolution of modern humanitarian aid, that has in the past fifty years become a manipulated strategic key player in international geopolitics.

Each book is an intimate story of his encounters, his adventures, the need to improvise in order to heal, cure and survive. Through his anecdotes and drawings, Pascal’s notebooks also highlight his doubts and questions about his activities and echoes the problems, modern humanitarian aid has been and is going through.

Diving into his notebooks and archival film footage, returning to the battlefields to meet survivors and key players, we see how in five acts, the dream to humanize war gave birth to today’s dramas of so called "humanitarian wars".

The film will also involve major international figures of the humanitarian world to link the small and greater story, as to ultimately understand how in the name of the good and the sacred intervention right, wars were made in its name.

A form of neo-colonialism denounced by Dr. Pascal as well as major international humanitarian players who are imagining a new possible approach to their work

A Journey through the achievements and paradoxes, drifts and dead ends of the humanitarian adventure to hear the last combat of its pioneers : re-humanize the humanitarian ....
