During the Second World War the Italian gold reserves were stored in the vast and inaccessible fortress of Fortezza/Franzensfeste at the northern edge of the Italian Alps. At the end of the war 100 tons of gold were missing. This becomes the source of numerous Nazi Gold myths that are still alive today. But it also marks the beginning of the story of a young concentration camp survivor from Vienna, Herbert Herzog, who in 1945 randomly comes across traces of the missing gold in Austria. On behalf of the Bank of Italy in the 1950s Herzog sets out on an impossible quest: will he be able to find out the truth about Fortezza‘s missing Nazi Gold?
