Once there lived a woman in Tehran who apparently chose her fate on her own terms to wait decades on a public square for her lover. She wanted to run away with him and start a new life. But he never came. Her dress had the color of love; it was the Woman in Red. A few years ago, the Woman in Red died and became a legend. No one knows where she came from or when exactly she disappeared. Everyone knows one or another story about her. The film is in search for these people and their stories, and thereby also for love in Iran. One of those people is the lawyer and human rights campaigner Behjat Moaali, who had her office on Ferdosi Square. The two women couldn’t be more different: the one homeless, the other a successful lawyer. However, from Behjat Moaali’s point of view, their lives are fatefully intertwined. “The Woman in Red is the object of projection for each and every one of us. It seems that her actual biography is not of prime importance. That what the people saw in her is important. That she has a meaning, especially for us Iranian women, is important.” Old and new photos and film footage from Ferdosi Square and the original "woman in red", the countless stories from the shopkeepers and passersby on the square, songs and poetry, as well as a radio interview that a journalist conducted with this mysterious apparition in red are the creative elements of this film that will bring together our human desires for “fairytale stories” and information about sociopolitical realities.
