Annually, up to 16 European participants develop documentary projects for an international audience. Each of them gets intensive tutoring by two experienced industry professionals. Four effective and practically oriented workshops lasting five days each. In THE FINAL PITCHING the participants present their projects to distinguished international decisionmakers.

While attending the Documentary Campus Masterschool, the participants pursue their regular jobs and other projects. 
The projects developed in the Masterschool appeal to viewers with different backgrounds from various cultures and are thus suitable for broadcasters in several countries. The range of genres encompasses all kinds of creative documentaries including wildlife and nature, foreign worlds, history, portraits and science. All non-fiction formats that are internationally distributed are supported.

Documentary professionals and up-and-coming talents experienced in their national markets:

• authors / script-writers
• directors
• producers
• ambitious newcomers

Conditions

Masterschool applicants need to

• have experience in their domestic markets
• have ambition to work on international terrain
• have strong documentary projects for an international audience
• be open to learn and to adapt their projects to the needs of the international market
• be at least 22+ years old
• have good English language skills

Participation fee

Costs covered by Documentary Campus:

Documentary Campus bears the entire costs for the vocational training of the selected 15 participants. This includes:

• Training in four workshops
• 2 tutors per participant
• Tutor visits
• Internship in a European or North American production or distribution company (travel expenses, accommodation, market fees, etc.)
• Staff, lecturers and organisational costs

This is made possible through the generous support of film funds, film institutes, broadcasters, companies and governmental bodies. As these monies partly have to be raised in the country or region of the participants’ origin, a few applicants might have to apply for development funding linked to their project. In this case Documentary Campus will support them.

Costs for the participants:


During the compulsory four workshops, which will take place in different European cities, the participants will only have to cover costs for

• Travel
• Accommodation
• Daily subsistence
• Catering at the Open Training Sessions

Repayment:


The project development and vocational training costs 15,000 Euro per participant and will have to be repaid to the funding bodies when the developed project goes into production. The repayment is made out of the production budget. Therefore market-based project development costs are expected to be part of the final production budget.

Grants: 


Three participants from countries participating in the MEDIA Programme, who otherwise could not afford to take part, may apply for a grant to support their travel and accommodation costs during the four Masterschool workshops.
